sir,
I have the heneur te acknowledge the receipt of your
confidential despatch of the 13th of March last enol sing
a copy of a note from the Chinese Minister at Londen en the
subject of the revolutionary schemes against the Chinese
Government.

Chang Tajen has not been quite correctly informed.
The first intimation receivedby the Viceroy of Canten was
that sent from Hong Kong, and it was in pursuing investi-
gations made on the receipt of the information from Hong
Kong that the further developments were discovered. There
were but four persons arrested in Hong Kong and ne papers
⚫f any kind were found in their passession. They were arres-
ted because they were found in a house in which compromising
papere were discovered, but there was nothing to connect
them with the papers or the preclamations of which the
